Intesa Sanpaolo Headquarters

Branding and minimalism

Concept

Intesa Sanpaolo’s Tokyo headquarters stages a precise dialogue between Italian identity and Japanese context. The project’s minimalist language is rooted in Japanese tradition—clarity, restraint, and light as a building material—while the quality of design and furnishings reflects the rigor and craft of Made in Italy. In the meeting room, an origami wall artwork folds light and shadow into a tactile relief, acknowledging place while signaling the bank’s culture of care and precision.

Around this core, large glazed walls for meeting and manager rooms keep the plan visually open and bright, expanding the perceived volume and preserving long sightlines. A photochromic film resolves the openness–privacy paradox by darkening on demand for confidential moments and clearing again to restore light, orientation, and team awareness—transparency as wellbeing, not spectacle.

Brand and culture are made visible without billboards. Along the circulation spine, art walls act as slim shelves for photography of Italy’s landscapes, architecture, and cities—a living mood board of values (beauty, continuity, civic responsibility) rather than décor. Where daily rituals matter most, an employee relax area with countertop and compact kitchen supports coffee breaks and informal lunches. The palette here stays light and calming, so minds reset quickly and the space hosts both solitary pauses and convivial moments.

Wellbeing is layered into the envelope. Pastel base tones reduce visual fatigue and help daylight read evenly across surfaces. Punctual greenery at thresholds and corners softens edges and adds a biophilic note, making the office welcoming from the first step. Seating and joinery favor rounded profiles and clean lines to lower visual and acoustic noise across the open floor.

Agility is built into the furniture strategy. Mobile, flexible pieces—lightweight screens, tables on casters, stackable chairs, movable whiteboards—let teams reshape settings in minutes. This encourages movement, posture change, and proactivity, supporting stand-ups, side-by-side reviews, and impromptu workshops without calling facilities or losing momentum. The office behaves like a toolkit: easy to reconfigure, easy to maintain, always legible.

Identity returns in measured accents. Separators, lockers, and a family of custom stools pick up the brand colors with discipline, turning everyday elements into quiet carriers of belonging. The custom stools sit at the plan’s most panoramic edge, where the view opens to city and water—an inviting micro-destination for short breaks, informal chats, or a few minutes of perspective.

Across the plan, the rules are consistent: keep the base soft and legible; use transparency to share light and orientation; activate privacy only when needed; enable motion through flexible furnishings; and express the brand through craft, function, and repeatable details. The result is an office both specific and timeless—Japanese in its minimalist clarity, Italian in its design excellence—designed to foster focus, civility, and long-term attachment to the workplace.
